The summer of 2024 saw promising German U23 international, Shekiera Martinez join East London club, West Ham United in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Martinez, born July 4, 2001, in Fulda, Germany, is a dynamic forward known for her pace, power, and sharp movement, the forward is a rising star in European football.
She began her senior career with Eintracht Frankfurt, making over 100 appearances and scoring 24 goals. Her standout performances in the Bundesliga and UEFA Women’s Champions League, including a goal against Rosengård in early 2024, caught international attention.
Martinez joined West Ham in July 2024, signing a three-year deal. To meet work permit criteria, she was loaned to SC Freiburg for half a season, where she tallied 5 goals and 2 assists in 12 games before returning to London in January 2025.
Internationally, she’s excelled at youth levels for Germany, finishing as top scorer in the 2018 U-17 Euros (9 goals) and playing a key role in their U-19 Euro runner-up finish in 2019. She earned her first Germany U23 cap in 2024.
At just 1.63m, Martinez makes up for her size with explosive athleticism and a sharp eye for goal which are attributes that make her a constant threat in the final third and a key figure in West Ham’s future.
West Ham United fans have deemed her “our German with no fear” due to her composure on the pitch and the fearlessness she possesses during games, weaving through defenders and taking on anyone.
