Arsenal FC Women have announced that England international forward Alessia Russo has signed a new long-term contract with the club. The extension, confirmed on the eve of the 2025–26 Women’s Super League (WSL) season, underscores Russo’s integral role in Arsenal’s attacking lineup and her commitment to the club’s ambitions.

Since joining Arsenal in July 2023 on a free transfer from Manchester United, Russo has made a significant impact, scoring 36 goals in 72 appearances. Her contributions were pivotal in securing the 2024 League Cup and the 2025 UEFA Women’s Champions League title. In the previous WSL season, she shared the Golden Boot with Khadija Shaw, netting 12 goals in 21 league matches. Her exceptional performances earned her the Football Writers’ Association Women’s Footballer of the Year award and a nomination for the 2025 Ballon d’Or
Reflecting on her renewed commitment to Arsenal, Russo expressed:
"Arsenal feels like home. This is such a special club, and it has felt that way to me from the moment I joined two years ago. Playing for Arsenal is an honour and has pushed me to develop and grow as a player. I feel empowered with this badge on my chest.”
Head coach Renée Slegers also lauded Russo's influence both on and off the pitch:
"Alessia is a really important part of our group, and I'm so pleased that she has signed a new deal here. As a striker, Alessia's goals often take the spotlight—but she brings so much more to the team. I'm looking forward to striving for more together."
With this contract extension, Russo is set to continue leading Arsenal's forward line, aiming to build on the club's recent successes and pursue further honours in the upcoming season.
Beyond her goal-scoring exploits, Russo has also become a central figure in mentoring younger players within the Arsenal squad. Her professionalism, work ethic, and leadership both on and off the training pitch have made her a role model for emerging talents, who look to her as an example of dedication and ambition at the highest level of women’s football.
The renewal also highlights Arsenal’s commitment to retaining top talent amid increasing competition in the WSL. With rival clubs investing heavily in the league, keeping players of Russo’s calibre ensures that Arsenal remain a formidable force both domestically and in European competitions. Fans see this extension as a clear signal of the club’s ambition to compete for silverware consistently and maintain their status among Europe’s elite.
Finally, for supporters, Russo’s new contract represents excitement and continuity. Having scored memorable goals in key fixtures and delivered in high-pressure moments, she embodies the attacking spirit of Arsenal Women. The upcoming season will see fans eagerly anticipating her performances, hoping she continues to light up stadiums with her pace, precision, and knack for scoring decisive goals.
