Chelsea get back to winning ways against Tottenham Hotspur in a 2-0 win

Despite continuous pressure and determination from the home side, Chelsea earned a solid 2-0 win, putting in a strong team performance to take all 3 points, to keep their hopes of finishing in the top three.


Tottenham Hotspur Squad:

First Half:

Tottenham started the match with real intensity, pressing Chelsea high up the pitch and refused to let the blues settle. Spurs looked sharp, which caused problems down the wide areas and led to them winning most of the midfield battle.


January signing Signe Gaupset showed true quality throughout the first half, along with new addition to the squad Julie Blakstad was a continuous threat down Tottenham’s left side.


Just after 11 minutes of play, Olivia Holdt had a strike over the crossbar, after an incredible run and later on, Beth England fired a good chance over the bar.


Tottenham showed to be the better side for most of the first half, however despite their dominance, play led to Keira Walsh securing a goal for the blues in a half cleared corner, 6 minutes before half time. 



Second Half:

Chelsea opened the game strong in the second half, Alyssa Thompson struck just 4 minutes into the remainder of the game, making the score 2-0. 


After both sides had made changes, Chelsea created more pressure on Spurs after Naomi Girma showed strength through a close range effort, however gathered by Lize Kop.


Hannah Hampton made an incredible stop when she found herself in a one-on-one situation with Olivia Holdt, who was a consistent threat throughout the game.


Both sides were eager to create more chances in the remainder of the match, however the game ended in defeat for Spurs at home, as Chelsea won 2-0.


What's next for both sides?

Tottenham travel to Aston Villa in their next WSL game on Sunday, 15 February. For Chelsea they will face Liverpool at home on the same day, as they compete to keep pressure on their top 3 rivals.
