Freya Godfrey, 19 year old Arsenal forward will play the rest of the 2024/25 season on loan to London City Lionesses. Freya has made three appearances over three seasons in her professional contract.
Freya’s first appearance was in the Women's Super League against Brighton & Hove Albion in the 2022/23 season and her last appearance in an Arsenal shirt was for her UEFA Women's Champions League debut against Valerenga in Matchday Five. Godfrey came on as a substitute in the 84' minute replacing Kyra Cooney-Cross.
Godfrey signed her first professional contract with the Arsenal at the end of the 2022/23 season. Soon after, Freya went on a season-long loan to Charlton for the whole of the 2023/24 season. Impressively, the Championship team were just one point away from promotion to the Women's Super League, as Crystal Palace became the Champions.
As well as this deal, Arsenal have had a busy few weeks, signing Laila Harbet, Vivienne Lia and Maddy Earl on their first professional contracts. All three 'Young Guns' have gone out on loan for the remainder of the 24/25 season:
Maddy Earl - Sheffield United FC
Vivienne Lia - Southampton FC
Laila Harbert - Southampton FC
Before the deal was announced on Instagram by both teams, the fans rushed to suspicions that Godfrey was going to London City Lionesses in the upcoming weeks.
London City Lionesses terminated their talented forward; Ruesha Littlejohn's contract shortly before Freya Godfrey's loan contract was announced.
This raised a lot of concern across the media that Godfrey will fill that position. Arsenal wish Freya all the best in her new path “We wish Freya the best of luck in this stage of development.”
Many fans are eager to see the young and technical English forward back on the pitch to get some minutes under her belt for the future.
