The Liverpool FC Women captain has signed a new contract ahead of what will be her 10th season at the club. That’s a full decade of being a Red (across two spells), and it’s clear that this place is more than just a team to her—it’s home.

“It Was a No-Brainer”

When asked about the decision to re-sign, Bonner made it simple: “Once I knew the club wanted to extend, it was a no-brainer.” Classic Gemma—no fuss, just focus. She’s one of those players who doesn’t need to shout about her love for the badge. You see it in how she plays, week in, week out.

A Record-Breaker, A Leader, A Constant

Let’s talk legacy for a second. Bonner has made 177 appearances for Liverpool—the most by any player in the club’s WSL era. She passed the previous record last season, and honestly, it felt right. No one deserves that honour more.

She was the captain during those back-to-back title wins in 2013 and 2014. Fast forward to now, and she’s still leading from the back, both literally and figuratively.

More Than Just Experience

Sure, she brings years of experience and a calm head in defence. But what Bonner really offers is consistency, leadership, and that deep sense of what it means to wear the shirt.

“The club’s going through a bit of a transition, but the ambition is there—to compete for trophies again,” she said.

And you get the feeling she’s not just here to make up numbers. She wants to help Liverpool push forward—back where they belong.

The Bigger Picture

Liverpool Women are building something. Slowly, steadily, the pieces are falling into place. Re-signing someone like Bonner—someone who’s been there, done it, and still has more to give—is a smart move. It gives the younger players a leader to look up to, and the fans a familiar face to rally around.
