The game started with a tribute to Alex Morgan, a legend of American soccer, with 224 caps, 123 goals and 9 titles in 14 years of her national career.

A surprise in the Portuguese squad was Carolina Santiago who was in the starting 11 and Maísa Correia, both made their debut with the first team .
The game didn’t start the way Portugal planned, suffering a goal in the 30 seconds from Rose Lavelle with the assist from Catarina Macario, and in the firsts minutes the American team dominated the game, but Portugal didn't let it stop there, they began to react, pressing high and defending very well, not giving space for the Americans to attack.
Until the 40th minute Portugal equalized with a corner from Kika Nazareth and a header from Diana Gomes, Portugal made history by scoring the first ever goal against the USA .
At halftime everything was tied, with a Portuguese team notably better than the Americans.
In the second half, the USA came out more motivated, with some goal opportunities, but the Portuguese team defended very well and gain more possession of the ball, both goalkeepers with a very busy half, but again Portugal stood out and at 72 minutes with another corner and an assist from Kika Nazareth which led to the winning goal scored by Fátima Pinto.
The game continued like this until the final whistle, a game that will be remembered in the history of the Portuguese national team, with a fantastic performance from the team and also a little bit of revenge after the last game in the group stage of the world cup that ended in a draw!
A special mention to Kika Nazareth who created many goal opportunities in addition to the two that were converted, and to Inês Pereira that created a wall in the Portuguese goal!
The teams face each other again this Sunday, will the USA recover and win this game or will Portugal show that they are here to go against the big teams?
