"I am so happy to be here and so happy to get started and to join this family", said Zigiotti, "I have been watching Manchester United in the last couple of years and having seen what they have been doing, I am very impressed. They are a team that fits me and my style, meeting the players has been great. They were like a family and it was a fantastic way to start."
Julia Zigiotti is a familiar face to the Women's Super League (WSL), having played at Brighton & Hove Albion for 2-and-a-half-years. Amongst her spell with The Seagulls, she made 51 appearances for the club, meaning she was a regular starter and the team relied on her skill that she brought in the midfield.
Upon her contract at Manchester United, we can imagine she will be a key player called upon when needed and will compliment the teams playing style. Julia Zigiotti will bring power, precision and control into the midfield, which is something Manchester United thrive on.
Matt Johnson, Manchester United Director of Women's Football has said, "Julia is one of Europe's best defensive midfielders who brings a winning mentality and experience of competing in the top competitions."
During the summer of 2025, Zigiotti was amongst the 23-player squad in the UEFA Women's European Championships for Sweden. Sweden progressed to the quarter-finals where they were beat on penalties against England. However, Julia Zigiotti's performances did not go unnoticed. She contributed in a number of goals to help Sweden secure the top spot in the group stage.
Julia Zigiotti joins Manchester United from Bayern Munich where she has recently won the DFB-Pokal last season. Although Zigiotti only spent a season there, she made her mark in the Bundesliga. As she returns to the WSL, she will hope to do the same for Manchester United and bring back silverware for the club. The message is clear that Manchester United are wanting to progress in European football this season, and Zigiotti may be the solution they need, having competed in two European competitions this season with both club and country.
