Leicester City Women announced today that their manager Amandine Miquel has left the club, just 10 days before their WSL season opener away at Manchester United. The news has come as a huge surprise to fans, leaving the Foxes without a manager at a crucial stage in their preparations for the upcoming season.

Miquel was appointed in July 2024 and guided Leicester through the 2024/25 season. Under her leadership, Leicester City secured 10th place in the WSL, finishing a comfortable 10 points above the relegation zone. They also made two early exits in both cups: failing to make it out of the group stages of the Subway League Cup and only making it to the fifth round of the FA Cup.
In preparation for the new campaign, Leicester played four pre-season friendlies; results included a goalless draw with Everton, 1-1 draws against Sunderland and Aston Villa, and a 2-0 win over Italian side Fiorentina. Despite finishing with a win, the mixed nature of their pre-season may have played a role in the club’s decision to seek a new manager.
The timing, however, has left fans both shocked and concerned; with the WSL kicking off in early September, Leicester are now without a manager at one of the most important points in the season. For the Foxes, the immediate priority will be finding a replacement who can settle quickly and instil confidence in the squad. With a challenging opener against Manchester United fast approaching, Leicester will be hoping for a swift appointment of a new manager who is capable of providing much-needed stability.
