Yesterday evening, Liverpool confirmed the signing of midfielder Denise O’Sullivan from North Carolina Courage on a permanent deal for a club record fee.
O'Sullivan stated when signing, "It is a massive club and I think when you join a club as big as Liverpool it comes with massive responsibility and I can't wait to get to work to give 100% every day."
She arrives with a huge amount of experience, having earned 128 international caps since making her senior debut in 2011.
This afternoon, Liverpool then travelled away to face London Bee's in the Adobe FA Cup with Denise being named in the starting lineup and making her debut. Within minutes, she put the ball in the back of the net, scoring her first goal on her debut for the reds!
Liverpool’s long-term project, combined with the continued development of facilities at AXA Melwood, is understood to have played a major role in attracting O’Sullivan to the club. The midfielder had interest from several sides, but the direction Liverpool are heading in and the investment being made behind the scenes are believed to have been key factors in her decision.
The FA Cup victory served as early proof that Denise and the Reds’ other new signings this month are capable of shifting the mood around the club, with the quality and talent of the new arrivals clearly displayed in today's fixture.
