Manchester City took on Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium on 19th January 2025. Both sides have had an incredible start to the season.
Goals in this game came from Ella Toone (MU), Leah Galton (MU), Vivianne Miedema (MC), Rebecca Knaak (MC)
Heading into the new year, both teams have progressed to the Fifth Round of the FA Cup.
Manchester City are in third place with 22 points following Arsenal’s 5 – 0 win against Crystal Palace before the Manchester Derby kicked off.
Manchester United now go third and level with Arsenal.

Chloe Kelly and Alanna Kennedy have both been left off the team sheet for the Manchester Derby.
Chloe Kelly has recently been linked with Manchester United on a loan move. This is to ensure Kelly books her place on the England’s upcoming Euros squad.
New signing Rebecca Knaak made her Women’s Super League debut with Manchester City after having an outstanding performance against Ipswich Town in the Fourth Round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.
Manchester City’s latest signing Aemu Oyama joined the squad midweek and is set to make her first appearance for the Blues as she is named on the bench.
Manchester United has granted Geyse personal leave, which is why she has not been named in the team sheet for the evening.
Both Grace Clinton and Simi Awujo have been in training during the week and are named in the squad after some doubt as to whether they will recover well.
KICK OFF:
1’ During the first minute of the game, Manchester United apply pressure early on, Celin Bizet intercepts the ball and crosses the ball into the box. Unfortunately, Terland’s shot went wide.

Ella Toone opens the scoring for the Manchester Derby. A perfectly timed shot from the England International after outstanding build-up play from Manchester United’s Number 20, Miyazawa.
Toone made her comeback from injury against West Bromwich Albion in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup Fourth Round where Manchester United won 7 – 0. Ella Toone was amongst one of those goal scorers in that matchup.

Leah Galton scores the second goal for Manchester United in the Manchester Derby. A corner was awarded to Manchester United, taken by Ella Toone.
A scramble in the box for Manchester United as Leah Galton was potentially offside, there was no VAR to confirm or deny the goal, so the goal stood.
Manchester City 0 – 3 Manchester United
Khiara Keating made a mistake close to goal after a misplaced pass that Manchester City couldn’t pick up. Another goal from Ella Toone made it three for The Red Devils.

Manchester City pull one back in this one-sided contest. A perfect cross from Mary Fowler into the box, Vivianne Miedema scores her first Manchester Derby goal.

Manchester City’s new signing Rebecca Knaak finds the back of the net. An incredible header from the German International defender.
Manchester City put themselves back in the game just before the break.

Ella Toone gets her hattrick seconds after the re-start. An error from Khiara Keating that rebounds off Elizabeth Terland and gives Ella Toone space to slot the ball into the back of the net.
