After 637 days away from the competitive game, Sam Kerr made her comeback on Sunday in a 1-3 victory against Aston Villa.

But in true Kerr-style, she couldn’t make her comeback something to be forgotten. Just 13 minutes after being subbed into the game, Kerr scored her 100th goal for Chelsea, joining Fran Kirby as the only two female players to mark the milestone for the club.

‘It means everything,’ said Kerr. ‘To score 100 goals for any club is amazing, but to do it for a club like Chelsea is incredible. It’s something I'm really proud of and I don't take it lightly.'

The 32-year-old was in the right place at the right time to put the Blues’ third goal past Ellie Roebuck, tapping the ball into the bottom corner. Keira Walsh and Aggie-Beever Jones were the other goal scorers on the night, claiming Chelsea their second win of the Women’s Super League season.

‘I was really pleased Sam was able to come on for 20 minutes and was even more pleased with the fact she was able to score, because I think it takes the pressure off her going into the future and her next games for the club,' said Bompastor.

Kerr sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury on a warm-weather training camp in Morocco, January 2024, and underwent a gruelling recovery. In addition to this, Kerr experienced a variety of lifestyle changes, including the introduction of Bompastor to Chelsea, a court case for alleged racial abuse, as well as the birth of her first child with partner Kristie Mewis.
