Scotland produced a spirited performance to earn a 2–1 victory over Morocco in a competitive international friendly in Casablanca. The match provided Melissa Andreatta’s side with a valuable test away from home as preparations continue for upcoming qualification fixtures.
The visitors started brightly, controlling possession and pressing high against a well-organised Moroccan defence. Caroline Weir and Erin Cuthbert combined well through midfield, creating several early chances for striker Martha Thomas, whose effort was tipped wide by the Moroccan goalkeeper. The breakthrough came late in the first half when Erin Cuthbert latched onto a loose ball just outside the box and drove a low shot into the bottom corner to give Scotland a 1–0 lead at the interval.
Morocco responded strongly after the break, growing into the game with more aggression and purpose. Their persistence was rewarded in the 80th minute when Elodie Nakkach capitalised on a defensive lapse to slot home from close range, levelling the score at 1–1. The equaliser lifted the home crowd, and for a spell, Morocco looked the likelier side to find a winner.
However, Scotland showed impressive resilience and composure in the final stages. In the dying moments, Caroline Weir stepped up with a moment of quality, curling a precise effort into the top corner from the edge of the box to restore the lead and seal a dramatic late victory for the visitors.
It was a result that reflected Scotland’s character and attacking depth, with Andreatta’s tactical adjustments paying off as her team finished strongly. For Morocco, despite the defeat, the performance showed plenty of positives, especially their energy and technical play in midfield.
The final whistle confirmed a 2–1 win for Scotland, a confidence-boosting result that adds momentum to their build-up for competitive fixtures ahead, while Morocco will take heart from a spirited showing against higher-ranked opposition.
