Let’s take a deep dive into the Belgium Women’s National team. The Belgium women’s team (also known as the Red Flames) are currently under management by Elísabet Gunnarsdóttir who only took over the role in January 2025. The team is competitive and know their opposition. It is controlled by the Royal Belgian Football Association, the governing body for football in Belgium. The team has got strong goal scorers and amazing talent.

Belgium’s first official match took place on May 30, 1976, against France at the Stade Auguste Delaune in Reims. It was a strong start, with Belgium securing a 2–1 win. Over the next couple of years, the team continued to build momentum, drawing 2–2 with Switzerland and 1–1 with France. The following year, they bounced back by beating both teams, winning 1–0 against Switzerland and 2–0 against France. They added another victory with a 1–0 result over Yugoslavia. Their first loss came against England, who handed them a tough 3–0 defeat. That was followed by a 2–0 loss to France and a 2–2 draw with the Netherlands. In the years that followed, Belgium mostly faced other European teams, continuing to grow on the international stage.
A key player to look out for on their side would have to be Janice Cayman who plays centre back and was recently named Belgium’s Player of the Year. In the WEURO25 qualifiers, we saw Cayman score five times throughout eight matches. She’s got great tactical skills to think outside the box and trick any opposition. During this year’s euros and group stages we’ve seen one goal from her and she’s appeared on the starting line-up for all three of the games.
Sadly, Belgium’s WEURO25 campaign has come to an end as they finished 3rd in their group (Group B) just below Italy. The Red Flames have 3 points and have only won one game in their group where they beat Portugal 2-1. Following that, they had already come up against Portugal earlier this year in the Nations League. Belgium really had a tough draw but they at the least presented themselves as best as they could.
