Alexia Putellas has played 270 minutes since the beginning of the Euro’s having played every minute of Spain’s campaign so far. In these three games Alexia has tallied up an extraordinary three goals and four assists, making her top assister so far in the competition. Her seven goal involvements throughout the group stages equal the record of goal involvements by a single player which was previously set three years ago by Beth Mead.

As well as this Alexia has also had a staggering 90% passing accuracy throughout the competition. One of Alexia’s many key contributions to a team is her ability to create goal scoring opportunities out of nothing. She presses high in the midfield pressuring the opposition to make mistakes and lose possession. Her close control footwork is another of her key attributes, being able to snake her way around players effortlessly and remaining composed and calm while on the ball. Alexia is a renowned goal scorer often referred to as La Reina – The Queen. Her ability to shoot from distance as well as close range is one of the many reasons she has had such a strong impact throughout this Euro’s.

Spain started their campaign against Portugal on the 3rd of July, finished the game with a convincing 5-0 score line. Alexia scored her first goal of the competition in the 41st minute, bringing the ball down perfectly with her chest, chopping to send the defender in the wrong direction and perfectly placing the ball in the net with a right-footed finish. Although she had no more goal involvements in this game Alexia was named player of the match. Spain’s next game saw them face a thrilling Belgium side. Alexia began the game, opening the scoring in the 22nd minute trademark Alexia Putellas goal in a crowded box. She went on to assist two goals in the second half – one in the 52nd minute and one in the 81st minute.

As well as opening the scoring, of course Alexia closed the scoring of the game with a goal in the 86th minute sealing Spain’s second victory with a 6-2 win and being named player of the match for a second consecutive game. Spain’s final game saw them face a difficult Italian side. Although Alexia didn’t score a goal in this game, she was still ever present assisting the first goal in the 14th minute to equalise with Italy and the last goal in the 91st minute, seeing the game end with a 3-1 score line.

It is clear to everyone spectating that Alexia Putellas has been a star standout player in this Euro’s being the catalyst for many of Spain’s victories. Will she continue to shine in this tournament, and could this make her a forerunner for a 3rd Ballon D’or title?
