This Sunday (8th February) Tottenham Hotspur take on Chelsea at 2.25pm at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Last time these two faced each other Chelsea took the 1-0 win after a goal in the 61’ minute from Kiera Walsh. Tottenham are only one point behind Chelsea in the WSL so this would be a crucial win for both teams. Chelsea will be hoping not to fall any further down the table as they slowly watch the title slip away from them.
Chelsea last played Manchester City in the WSL where they returned to London after a brutal 5-1 loss and in their league game before their game against Manchester city they lost 2-0 to Arsenal. It has been 11 years since Chelsea women suffered a back to back loss, but they did start the 2026 year off with a huge 5-0 win at home against West Ham but that was the last game they won in the league. Chelsea are still competing in all the domestic competitions as well as the UEFA women’s champions league so they are playing more games than Tottenham and the other teams in the league, this could mean that their players are more worn out than other players and we have seen Sonia Bompastor playing some people out of position. There could be many reasons why Chelsea have suffered these two losses but ultimately they will be hoping to go home this weekend with the three points.
Tottenham made 5 loans/signings in the recent transfer window and even got Maika Hamano on loan from Chelsea, it will be interesting to see if any of their new signings will get minutes and what impact they will have. Tottenham's signings consist of Julie Blakstad, Hanna Wijk, Matilda Nilden,Signe Gaupset and as previously mentioned Maika Hamano on loan. As well as making signings Tottenham saw 4 players go, Ashleigh Neville has made a move to Leicester City, Martha Thomas is on loan at Liverpool, Kit Graham is at Ipswich on loan, and after her loan at West Ham Anna Csiki is now on loan at Roma.
Chelsea didn't welcome anyone new into the club this transfer window but did see two players leave and two players go out on loan. Makia Hamano went on loan to this weekend's competition Tottenham and Mara Alber went abroad on loan to Werder Bremen. The two players that left Chelsea in the January transfer window are Oriane Jean-Francois and Ashanti Akpan, Jean-Francios has made the move to WSL side Aston Villa and Akpan has gone to the WSL 2 side Newcastle.
If you aren’t attending this game it’s a game you won't want to miss, the London Derby, especially with Tottenham only being 1 point behind last season's champions Chelsea.
