The footballing world is buzzing after the release of this year's Ballon d'Or nominations.

But who will take home the coveted prize? Could it be Bonmatí securing an incredible third consecutive title, or will a new name be etched into the trophy? Lucy Bronze has earned the most nominations this year, five in total, and has enjoyed a stellar season, lifting four trophies, including European Championship. That kind of success could make her a serious frontrunner for football's biggest individual honour.
Nominee breakdown -
A total of 30 players have been nominated for the Ballon d'Or this year. Arsenal lead the way with seven nominees, boosted by their Champions League triumph - a victory that could give their players an edge in the race for football's top individual honour. Barcelona are close behind with five nominees, having claimed three trophies this season, including the league title.
Five Lionesses are also feature on the shortlist after England's European Championship success. Several of them were part of Champions League-winning squads, adding further weight to their chances. While Arsenal look the most likely to produce this year's winner, the competition remains wide open, with plenty of players capable of claiming the prize.
Player spotlight -
Lucy Bronze enjoyed a remarkable season, lifting the Women's Super League, Women's FA Cup, Women's League Cup, and the European Championship - the latter for the second year running. Her outstanding campaign has earned her five Ballon d'Or nominations, more than any other player this year.
Alexia Putellas also added to her glittering résumé, winning the Liga F, Copa de la Reina, and the Supercopa Femenina. A two-time Ballon d'Or winner, she received four nominations this season and remains one of the game's most decorated midfielders.
Aitana Bonmatí matched her Barcelona teammate's domestic trophy haul and was named Champions League Player of the Season. Also a two-time Ballon d'Or winner, she collected four nominations this year, cementing her status as one of the sport's most consistent performers.
Heading into the final stages of voting, Alexia Putellas and Alessia Russo are considered the frontrunners. The question is, will Russo make history with her first Ballon d'Or triumph, or will Putellas capture her third and further strengthen her legacy?
Who's going to win? There are big names in the running for it. Is Bonmatí or Putellas going to win it for the 3rd time or is someone else going to win for the first time? Find out on the 22nd of September.
