This January transfer window has seen many drastic transfers, including some unexpected deals and rumours thrown in too. So, let’s cover the fourth and final week.
On the 22nd of January, Manchester City signed Kerolin Nicoli from North Carolina Courage until 2028.
The 25 year old forward has gained 45 caps for the Brazilian National Team as well as winning a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Another transfer on the 22nd was Ria Oling to Crystal Palace from FC Rosengard until 2027.
Crystal Palace are currently bottom of the WSL table so the experienced midfielder may be just what they need in order to avoid relegation.
Oling has 85 caps for the Finland National Team and has won many league titles with many different clubs.
29 year old Caitlin Hayes departed Celtic FC and has signed with Brighton & Hove Albion - becoming the club’s first signing of the transfer window.
The 29 year old centre-back is also an Ireland international player with 18 caps along with two goals.
She was also a part of the Celtic team which won the Scotland’s premier league “Team of the Season” for the past three seasons.
After being on loan to Tottenham from West Ham in the first half of the season, Katelin Talbert has now joined Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season. Aston Villa have been looking for a goalkeeper since the loan departure of Sophia Poor, the 26 year old Talbert may be what they need.
On the 24th of January, Welsh international Olivia Clark signed with Leicester City from FC Twente. The 23 year old tends to be a starter for her country which has earned her 25 caps.
Clark was only with FC Twente for 6 months after joining the club due to her former club; Bristol City's relegation.
West Ham signed 25 year old Eva Nystrom from Hammarby on the 25th of January. She was close to making 100 appearances for the Swedish side which included 7 goals.
The Finnish defender also has many caps for both the Finland senior team, and younger international groups.
On the 26th of January, there was a record breaking signing with Naomi Girma to Chelsea from San Diego wave.
Chelsea signed the defender for $1.05 million (around £900,000) making her the most expensive female footballer in the world. The 24 year old defender has 44 caps for the USA International Team along with a few goals.
Chelsea is notably the club which has spent the most money on new signings so they are definitely looking to improve and push towards winning the Women's Super League for the sixth season in a row and the UEFA Women's Champions League.
Tottenham also announced the signing of Josefine Rybrink on a short-term contract until the end of the 2024/25 season.
The Swedish defender previously played for BK Hacken with over 70 appearances for the club. She
also made her Sweden senior team debut in 2021 and has gone on to gain 8 caps.
On the 30th of January (the last day of the transfer window), 24 year old Jenna Nighswonger signed with Arsenal from Gotham FC.
She had 46 appearances with Gotham scoring 4 goals. The team also went on to win the NWSL Championship in 2023.
Also on the 30th of January, Leicester City announced the signing of Iceland international Hlin Eiriksdottir from Kristianstads DFF. The 24 year old forward has 35 caps for Iceland as well as 6 goals.
Another deadline day signing was Allyson Swaby to Crystal Palace from AC Milan signing with the club until 2027.
The 28 year old is an experienced centre-back as she has previously played in clubs throughout many different countries including France and Italy. She also has 33 caps for the Jamaica senior team and, on top of that, two goals.
A rumour that came to be true was Arsenal’s Laura Wienroither to Manchester City on loan until the end of the season.
The Austrian international has been with the Gunners since 2022 making 30 appearances. Wienroither seemed to lack game time at Arsenal, so this move could be an amazing opportunity for
her to gain experience.
Another last day transfers was Aniek Nouwen to Crystal Palace from Chelsea on loan. The 25 year old centre-back has played for the Dutch international team from the age of U16 and has 40 caps for the senior team.
An unexpected, last minute transfer was Manchester City’s Chloe Kelly to Arsenal until the end of the 2024/25 season.
Kelly was lacking minutes at Manchester City, so in order for her to secure a place in the England Euros
squad this summer, was in her best interest to go on loan.
She played for Arsenal’s academy and then went on to be in the senior squad from 2015 to 2018.
On deadline day, Brighton & Hove Albion announced the signing of Nadine Noordam from AFC Ajax.
The 26 year old midfielder had over 100 appearances for Dutch club as well as appearing in the squad for many of the Dutch international youth teams.
Chelsea also announced the signing of goalkeeper Femke Liefting from AZ Alkmaar. The 20 year old earned herself two call ups to the Dutch national team with hopefully many more to come in the future.
She is also described as having “vast experience for her age” by Paul Green, Chelsea’s head of women’s football.
23 year old Alejandra Bernabe has joined Liverpool from Chelsea on loan until the end of the season. The Spanish defender has also played for many different Spanish clubs helping her to gain experience.
The last, but considerably the most exciting signing of the WSL transfer window is Keira Walsh to Chelsea from Barcelona.
The well-loved England international has been with Barcelona since 2022 after departing from Manchester City where she spent 8 years.
Walsh has previously stated that she wanted to be back playing in the WSL, and as the January Transfer Window concludes, she is back.
So, that concludes the Women's Super League January transfer window for 2025. Which club do
you think benefited the most and who was your favourite transfer?
