Manchester City started the brighter of the two sides, with Bunny Shaw's right-footed shot from the centre of the box, saved by Emily Ramsey. City had a strong first half, and in the 21st minute, Vivianne Miedema's right-footed strike from the centre of the box found the bottom right corner. Everton created some good chances but couldn't find the back of the net, until the 40th minute, when Kelly Gago's right-footed shot from close range levelled the score. Bunny Shaw had another good opportunity just before half-time, but her header from the centre of the box went over the bar.

In the 54th minute, Bunny Shaw made no mistake, heading home from the centre of the box to restore City's lead. Manchester City continued to create chances but couldn't extend their advantage. There was positive news for City, though as Lauren Hemp, Grace Clinton, and Rebecca Knaak all returned to action. Both teams pushed for another goal but couldn't convert their chances. The game ended 2-1, with Manchester City going top of the league.
"At the end of the day the three points is all that matters and you could tell towards the end of the game we wanted to win and we wanted to just finish it off." said Bunny Shaw.
"That is how I want to see my team. I am super proud of them. We don't fear City, we've played them often and it's been a one-goal difference in, I don't know how many games. So it's a team that we know we can, if we get everything right, we can do something. But defensively, we have to sharpen up. We've been leaking a bit too easily. That's been the focus this week, make sure that we are tight at the back because we know the other way we will create something and we will have a chance." Said Brian Sorensen.
Manchester City just edged out Everton in a closely contested match that showcased quality from both sides. Despite Everton's late pressure, they couldn't find an equaliser, and the game ended 2-1 in City's favour. The result gives Manchester City a confidence boost as they move to the top of the league, one point ahead of Chelsea. With Manchester United up next on Saturday, the question is - can City stay at the top, or will they drop back to second? It will be a tough test against their rivals, but City will be desperate to secure the win they need.
